Target Population: Adults that struggle with emotion regulation; no active suicidal plans, intent, actions, currently active with an individual therapist
Group Description:
Understanding and regulating emotions through skills

Over 15 weeks we will discuss in detail each of the skills included in the Emotion Regulation module that is a part of the Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Training Manual.

Basic overview of Dialectical Behavior Therapy as a method for building a life of quality and less suffering.

Education on the autonomic nervous system and biological responses that are connected to strong, overwhelming emotions.

Short mindful meditation and breathing practice to center and settle at the start of each group meeting.

Focus will be to learn and begin the process of building mastery in these 4 key areas:
o Increase emotional intelligence by understanding the function and purpose of human emotions; learning to identify and name your own emotions.
o Develop skills and techniques to decrease the frequency of unwanted, ineffective emotions.
o Understand how to reduce vulnerability to strong emotions through proactive behaviors.
o Identify skills to manage extreme emotions without making a painful situation worse.
When the Group Meets: Concurrent sessions: Wednesday 10-11:30am or 6-7:30pm
